With a new renovated look Studio Salon opened its new branch in Gulshan 2 allowing a perfect bohemian escape from Dhaka’s bustling streets. In 2011, Naureen Hassan launched her salon with a vision and passion of bringing the latest hair, skin and makeup trends and techniques. Over the past 15 years she has done exactly that.
With training from Toni & Guy, Singapore, Naureen provides services and training on an international level. The senior stylist's specialty is haircuts and she told me the importance of communication between a client and her stylist before any cut is made, whether it's her doing the cut or one of her girls.
“Consultations are very important and my girls are also trained to do consultations before any haircut. It helps me understand what my clients need and it lets me advise them on what would suit them … it’s the first thing that we were taught in training.” She added that consultations are usually not done thoroughly in many salons here, but a five to ten minute discussion really helps both parties involved achieve the cut or colour they desire.
Another feature Naureen focuses on is providing her clients with the latest hair treatments, “We do a treatment called hair botox which is a protein based with no formaldehyde and no chemicals used. It gives the hair a natural straight look and aims to restore the health and appearance of the hair. The result is super shiny hair that is tangle and frizz free even after washes and is air dried.”
She continues to explain that hair botox is a different and a far better alternative to the infamous keratin treatment, “What happens in a keratin treatment is that it looks more unnatural as the hair grows out, and the natural hair texture starts to show through the roots. But the hair botox is a wash out process, so the more you wash your hair the more it becomes the same as the grown out hair.”
In order to tailor the experiences of each client, the salon also has three in-house exclusive makeup artists all catering to different trends and techniques of makeup. “Nerissa Noshin focuses on natural makeup looks, specializing in brown or darker skin tones. She also works with a lot of brides that come from abroad for their weddings. I really think Nerrisa would be loved mostly by the younger generation. We also have Sohana Khan who caters to the more traditional clientele and does full glam, and heavier make up including bridal and party make up. Lastly, we have Sushmita who actually brought in the airbrush technique and I don’t know if a lot of other places in Dhaka do that. All three artists bring their own style but with a flawless finish.”
Naureen expresses that they strive to continue to bring in new trends and Studio Salon has further expanded recently and brought in the service of lash extensions in the Gulshan 2 branch by an exclusive in-house lash technician. The salon also offers gel nails and specialized facials, “I do non-invasive facials such as peels, hydra treatment and microblading, they are not medical grade but you can definitely see the difference. And I do the peels myself.”
Over the years Naureen has strived to bring the newest trends to her salon and work with the clients herself, “I like coming in and working with my clients, I was trained to do so and it's my passion which is why I am always involved.”
