Mahbub Jamil, a businessman and former special assistant to the chief advisor of a caretaker government, has passed away aged 83.
He died at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at 2:40am on Wednesday due to old-age complications, according to family sources.
Mahbub Jamil's namaz-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after zuhr prayers later in the day, which will be followed by his burial at Banani graveyard.
Jamil was appointed special assistant to the chief advisor of the caretaker government, Fakhruddin Ahmed, with the rank of a minister on January 22, 2008.
He was in charge of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ministry of Industry, and Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Jamil was also managing director and chairman of Singer Bangladesh.
He joined Singer Bangladesh on September 1984 as marketing manager.
He was later appointed as MD of Singer Bangladesh Limited on January 15, 1985 and chairman on October 4, 1987.
Jamil retired as managing director of Singer Bangladesh Limited after serving for more than 24 years (1984-2009). He continued as chairman of the its board till April 2015.
He served as president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka and Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He was appointed chairperson of the board of directors of Bangladesh Biman on February 25, 2008.
Jamil was appointed an adviser to the board of directors of Robi Axiata on July 28, 2011.
