Ekushey Padak-winning veteran journalist Toab Khan, editor of the daily Danik Bangla has died aged 87.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s United Hospital at 12:30pm on Saturday, said Sarifuzzaman Pintu, executive editor of Dainik Bangla.
The eminent journalist had long been suffering from age-related diseases.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed sorrow at the death of the journalist.
Toab Khan was the first editor of Dainik Bangla, which changed its name from Dainik Pakistan after Bangladesh’s independence in 1971
He joined again as its editor in October 2021.
The seasoned journalist, who started his career in 1953, also served as press secretary to then-prime minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after independence.
Until recently he was also advisory editor of Daily Janakantha.
The veteran journalist received the Ekushey Padak for his outstanding contribution to journalism in 2016.
