Former state minister Advocate Afsaruddin Ahmad, younger brother of the country’s first prime minister Tajuddin Ahmad, died at his Lakshmi Bazar residence in Dhaka early Wednesday. He was 81.
The former Kapasia lawmaker leaves behind his wife, two sons and countless well-wishers.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the former state minister, reports BSS. In a condolence message, she prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Kapasia Upazila Chairman Advocate Amanat Hossain Khan said Afsaruddin Ahmad’s first nazam-e-janaza (funeral prayers) was held at the mosque beside his home at 9am, while the second one was held at the office of Dhaka Bar Association at 10:30am.
He will be buried at his family graveyard after a third namaz-e-janaza on the premises of Dardaria Government Primary School in Kapasia at 4pm.
Afsaruddin Ahmad was elected to parliament from Gazipur 4 in 1996, later serving as the state minister for housing and public works from 1996-1997.
