Covid-19: Bangladesh logs five deaths, 657 infections in a day

Case positivity rate drops further to 2.91%

Bangladesh recorded five deaths from coronavirus in the 24 hours till 8am on Thursday with another 657 new infections being reported. 

The positivity rate dropped further to 2.91% during the same period as 22,568 samples were tested across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

On Wednesday, the country logged eight deaths and 732 fresh Covid-19 cases.

The latest additions took the country's death toll to 29,058 and the total caseload to 19,45,765.

A total of 4,628 people recovered from Covid-19 in the meantime taking the total recovery to 18,31,577.

All five deaths were reported in Dhaka division in the past 24 hours.  

Of them, four were female and the other person was a male.

On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37% reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.

The country reported the first zero death from the coronavirus in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.

Besides, the country registered the highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 on August 10 last year.
