The 28th anniversary of death of eminent journalist Anwarul Islam Bobby, widely known as a newspaper wizard, will be observed on Tuesday.
He died in Dubai in 1994 while being flown to London for treatment of leukaemia, said a media statement.
Anwarul Islam was the youngest and first Bengali to hold the post of secretary general of APNS (All Pakistan Newspapers Society) while representing the now defunct The Bangladesh Observer before the war of Independence.
After the independence, he went on to help late Sheikh Fazlul Haq Moni in founding The Bangladesh Times and also Banglar Bani.
He later founded the first English language regional daily newspaper from Chittagong, The Daily Life, a medical weekly named The Pulse, and the now defunct The Morning Sun.
He was called a newspaper wizard by everyone who knew him.
His family requests all his friends, family and well-wishers to pray for his departed soul.
