Update : 06 Jul 2020, 07:57 PM

National Film Award winner playback singer Andrew Kishore has died today at 6.55pm.

The singer who had been receiving treatment in his hometown Rajshahi breathed his last on Monday, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid told the Dhaka Tribune.

He died within hours of being shifted to the the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a clinic run by his sister after his physical condition had significantly deteriorated. Andrew’s brother-in-law Dr Patrick Bipul Biswas confirmed the news to the press.

Yesterday, stories of Kishore’s declining health took over the internet. His relatives said that Kishore was not talking anymore.

The singer’s wife wrote on Facebook last night around 10pm: “Kishore is not speaking anymore. He just lies there with his eyes shut. I ask him what is going on his mind. He says that he is praying to God to take him away without making him suffer any longer."

She added: “Given how Kishore is loved by thousands of fans across the country, I believe, it is my duty to keep his followers updated as to the truth of his physical condition. I don’t think I will be able to write any longer. At times it seems, I am in the middle of a nightmare, unable to rouse myself from this horrible reality."

"The possibility of his departure while I remain alive, how can I make peace with that?" her heartbreaking post read.

Andrew Kishore had been fighting cancer since September, 2019.  He had an adrenal gland tumour  which turned malignant.

Andrew Kishore's name will be forever etched in our memory for his many popular songs including Jiboner Golpo Ache Baki Olpo, Haire Manush Rongin Fanush, Dak Diachen Doyal Amare, Amar Shara Deho Kheyo Go Mati, Shobai To Bhalobasha Chae, and more.

He received the National Film Award  eight times for playback singing in films.
