Doob is an independent and multidisciplinary online based 'Miniature' art project intended to showcase the work of nine emerging young artists from Bangladesh. At its core, Doob proposes to its collaborators to examine their immersion in nature and biodiversity at the time of this pandemic.
The initiator of this art project is emerging Bangladeshi young artist Azizee Fawmi Khan. This is her very first attempt at art curation.
The exhibit will be showcased on social media platforms between June 25 to July 3, 2020
The first interaction of Doob started at the beginning of June in time to celebrate World Environment Day, which started as a discussion among a few artists over social media. A discussion about Earth which is home to around 8.7 billion species, and how we humans are responsible for the extinction of at least 1 million of them. Now in 2020, the tables have turned for us.
Despite being a social animal by nature, words like social distancing, quarantine etc. have become daily norms to us. This unexpected abundance of free time has brought not only fear, depression and sadness but also a different outlook towards life. Some of us have had to relocate from the capital city to native villages, some of us got to explore good old balconies and rooftops and our external worlds have been imprisoned inside screens. These new quarantine activities and disruption of our habitual behaviors during lockdown have evoked certain feelings and realizations of nature and its might among these artists.
In this project, some artists directly address social and environmental issues, one using one of the most valuable objects at this moment as an art medium - a soap; while others find optimism in nature and simplicity of life. One tends to swim even deeper into one’s psyche to analyze the different states of being.
Since usual gallery based art practice is no more an option at this moment, all the artists here have been working for home. So, Miniature was chosen as the project's art form to overcome the limitation of space.
The purpose of this project is to hold on to these perceptions, raise awareness about nature and all the important things in life. So that we breathe in a better, brighter and harmonious world, since we are about to resurface again.
The participating artists are – Sara Hossain, Antora Mehrukh Azad, Anannya Mehpar Azad, Nusrat Jahan Titly, Sarah Jabin, Shipra Rani Biswas, Taniya Rahman Roshney, and Shaily Shrabonti.
