Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock at the death of internationally acclaimed Ekushey Award winning artist Kalidas Karmakar.
In a condolence message, the prime minister said the painter was acclaimed among the artists for his contribution to fine arts, reports UNB.
He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2018 for his contribution to fine arts.
"His art works will continue to inspire the new generations," she said.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Karmakar passed away at a private hospital in Dhaka on Friday at the age of 73.
