Archaeological play “Mahasthan” to be staged in Bogra

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has taken the initiative to stage an archaeological stage play, “Mahasthan,” celebrating 2500 years of political, cultural, and social heritage. Written by Dr. Selim Mojahar and directed by Liaquat Ali Lucky, the play will be staged on November 22 and 23 at Vasu Bihar in Mahasthangarh, Bogra. The announcement was made at a press conference on Thursday at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner of Bogra.

Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Nasir Uddin Ahmed, will inaugurate the play at 6pm on November 23. Prominent writer Hasan Azizul Haque will attend the event as chief guest. Presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky, the special guests at the event will include thespian Ataur Rahman, Professor Abdus Selim, Director General of the Department of Archaeology, Altaf Hossain, District Commissioner of Bogra, Foyez Ahamed, and Police Super Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan. 

“Mahasthan” attempts to portray the history of our national identity. The play follows how Mahasthangarh morphed from prehistoric times until the Liberation War. The content includes the hunter-gatherer era, songs of Ramayan, the poetry of Kalidas, Charjapad, Sufinama, Brahma Sangeet, Folk songs, the anti-British movement, the Language Movement and the Liberation War. The play aims to enlighten our youth about our history of intercultural harmony. 

The residents of Bogra have shown immense enthusiasm about this play, which is open for all. The play will be telecast live on the Facebook page of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
