“Debi” premiered in 28 theatres across Bangladesh yesterday with lead actor and producer Jaya Ahsan, co-star Sabnam Faria and director Anam Biswas paying a surprise visit to several theatres for a brief Q&A session. The two actors were seen in Modhumita, Balaka and Star Cineplex, among others.
Showtime asked Jaya Ahsan whether there will be a sequel to “Debi,” like the book “Nishithini.”
Jaya replied: “Do you want one after watching ‘Debi?’ If the audiences want (a sequel), then we will dare to venture. We will definitely try,Insha Allah.”
She also said: “We want to thank the audience for accepting the work of this new team. We have received an overwhelming response from every theatre. The audiences were satisfied. It makes us very happy to see houseful shows.”
Sabnam Faria said: “I’m a bit nervous. Every first step is scary, but after the first step, everything becomes easier. It felt like anticipating exam results. I came here to learn about the results from you (the audience).”
The tickets of all 10 shows of the first day were sold out at Star Cineplex beforehand. The theatre increased the number of halls to accommodate the high demand for “Debi” tickets.
