One of the most prominent "audiographers" in the country, Nahid Masud, will be conducting a film workshop titled “Workshop on Hands-on Audiography for Moving Image.” The three-day workshop will be held on October 20, 26, and 27 at the Training Room of the National Theater Bhavan at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
A statement from Moviyana Film Society elaborated that the workshop is open to anyone who has genuine interest in the craft and wishes to enter the world of creating sound for films -- while those who are already working in the field and wish to hone their existing skill-sets would also benefit from the workshop.
In his statement to Dhaka Tribune Showtime, Nahid said: “I feel as if we do not possess adequate institutional education when it comes to films in Bangladesh. Which is why those of us who are working in films are also teaching budding filmmakers through workshops such as this one. I have held such workshops at several film societies and have also taught audiography at Pathshala.”
In response to the a question as to exactly why he picked this topic for the workshop, Nahid replied: “We have to care for the aural experience just as much as we care for the visual experience -- they complement each other, after all. In the last 10 years, the art of fine cinematography has developed in this country through the guidance of people such as Rashed Zaman, Kamrul Hasan Khosru, and Nehal Quraishi. Young audiographers have yet to receive any similar support.
“People complain about how cinema halls are closing and how the local film industry is going through tough times. However, in order to draw more people to the cinemas you need to take care of them when they come, and the way we can achieve that is by emphasizing sound the same way we emphasize visuals. It is from these concerns that I decided to teach at this workshop,” Nahid added.
For students the registration fee is Tk2,000, and for professionals it is Tk3,000. The workshop will be coordinated by Oddri Hredesh and is presented by the Bangladesh Film School and Moviyana Film Society.
