Global Youth Film Festival starts in September

In the international section, 1270 movies were submitted, directed by 101 young directors across the world. On the closing day, September 29, five movies will be awarded by designated judges of the festival

Global Youth Film Festival Rangpur (GYFFR) will take place in Rangpur city with the slogan, “Let’s Cinema.” From September 27-29, Cinema Bangladesh will organize this assembly of young directors from around the world at the Town Hall of Rangpur. 

In the international section, 1270 movies were submitted, directed by 101 young directors across the world. On the closing day, September 29, five movies will be awarded by designated judges of the festival.

The international panel of GYFFR includes famous directors like Golam RabbanyBiplob, Mahde Hasan, and International Federation of Film Critics’ member, Sadia Khalid.

A young director and producer of this festival, HemantaSadeeq, told Showtime: “GYFFR organizers will be introducing a new award, dedicated to Hiralal Sen, the pioneer of Bengali movies.” 

Under the “Hiralal Sen best Bangladeshi film” category, 83 movies were submitted by Bangladeshi young directors. The jury panel of this division comprises names like director and actress, MeherAfrozShaon, director Jasim Ahmed, and “Bhubon Majhi” famed director, Fakhrul Arefeen Khan.

A movie making seminar will also be arranged, guided by 50 famous directors from national and international arenas. Director Proshoon Rahman, national award-winning director and screenwriter Anam Biswas, and producer Arifur Rahman, are some of the big names on this panel.

“Invited Film Category” will screen 10 famous short films outside of the competition. 

JisanMahadi, editor of Cinema Bangladesh, said: “After its first successful venture in Lakshmipur, this is the second season of Cinema Bangladesh.”
