The grand launching ceremony of the film “Jam,” based on Dhaka’s infamous traffic congestion, was held at Dhaka Club on Monday.

It is the first film based on the traffic condition of Bangladesh, according to the film’s producers. But the film’s true aim is to shed light on many social and personal issues using Dhaka’s “exotic” traffic jam as a metaphor.

However, the film’s main intention is to portray the social and love affair related complexities comparing them with the “exotic” traffic jam of this country.

This unique film is being produced by Kritanjali Kothachitra, founded by the late Dhallywood superstar and film-maker Manna, with the supervision of his wife Shelly Manna, who is also the screen-writer for the film.

Purnima, Ferdous and Arifin Shuvoo are the lead cast along with the Mousumi, Omar Sani, Amit Hasan, Misha Shawdagar, and Champa.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader cut a cake to inaugurate the launching ceremony of “Jam.”

But the content of the film easily captivated the transport minister who said: “I have just understood that it is a film based on traffic jam. Previously I didn't understand it but when it is clear it totally has caught my attention.”

“But if we take a look over the traffic condition of Dhaka, everybody can understand people of this city are not aware yet. It is not only structural problem, we should improve our mentality to get a better traffic condition,” he added.

Shelly Manna said: “The film ‘Jam’ will be focused on our daily life which consists both romance and crisis which will be compared with the day to day congestion.”

Prominent Bangladeshi actor ATM Shamsuzzaman, Ahmed Sharif and Indian actor Rituparna Ghosh were also present in the ceremony.

Kritanjali is back with a new film after 10 years. The last film produced by Manna’s Kritanjali Kothachitra was FI Manik’s “Pita Matar Amanot” back in 2008.
