Mumbai was recently reminded that Mother Nature does not take kindly to humans crossing the line.
The Arabian Sea spewed back the nearly 2,15,000kg of trash on the shore of Marine Drive, Mumbai this weekend, reports Condé Nast Traveller.
Marine Drive is a 3.6km long Boulevard in South Mumbai.
The Bhartia Management Consultancy collected the garbage from the beaches of Mumbai on Sunday, with Marine Drive itself accounting for 9,000kg of the trash.
But clean-ups alone will not solve the problem, because the amount of garbage that Mumbai chucks every day is staggering.

According to Condé Nast Traveller, Mumbai generates nearly 2,000 tonnes of garbage every day. Add to this, 2,100 million litres of sewage per day, which is released 3km into the sea, after basic treatment.

A stroll along Marine Drive in the monsoon once was counted among the more ecstatic and aesthetic experiences in Mumbai. But not anymore, thanks to the smell the place of sewage, and walk on plastic bags.
