Update : 19 Jun 2018, 03:25 PM

In a bizarre incident, mice chewed away cash amounting to Rs12.38 lakh from inside an ATM in Assam's Tinsukia Laipuli area in India, reports India Today.

Currency totalling to Rs29.48 lakh was deposited inside the ATM by a private security company on May 19, after which the machine had gone out of service on May 20, as quoted by a local newspaper.

Subsequently, on June 11, the company had re-opened the ATM only to realize that the whole sum has been shredded to pieces by mice.

How the mice managed to enter the machine is still unclear.

According to India Today, a report has been lodged with Tinsukia police and investigation into the matter is in process.
