Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said the government will take step to enhance skills and the areas of works of commercial councillors in the foreign missions of Bangladesh.
At a meeting with the leaders of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in Dhaka yesterday, the minister announced the plan to raise export volume.
He assured that the problems of doing business in Bangladesh will also be resolved in consultation with other ministries.
Tofail Ahmed claimed the government was providing all-out cooperation to the business community.
The MCCI delegation led by the chamber’s president Rokia Afzal Rahman met the commerce minister at his office.
They demanded formulating a time-befitting tea policy, establishing a high-tech park for the development of information technology, increasing the use of jute products, creating investment-friendly environment, developing infrastructures and introducing high-tech testing method to assess quality of export goods.
Commerce minister said the government would expedite the construction of the Dhaka-Chittagong four-lane highway.
Besides, necessary steps will be taken to ensure the best use of the Bali package made by the World Trade Organisation.
At a meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu earlier in the day, MCCI leaders called for holding political programmes on holidays.
The minister urged the businessmen to raise public awareness about the importance of introducing Fridays as working days
They also met Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at his office yesterday and placed nine-point recommendations to let economy grow.
While meeting with industries minister, MCCI leaders put stress on the uninterrupted electricity and gas supplies to the factories.
The chamber praised government for including the construction of deep sea port on its priority list.
It also reiterated the demand of a political unrest-free environment for the business and economy.
Strengthening of macroeconomic situation, improvement of investment situation, allowing businessmen to invest in foreign countries and improving the country’s image in abroad also got focus.
Amir Hossain Amu assured the industrialist that connection of electricity and gas supplies in the industries would be given priority.
He said the government would work to create an industry-friendly environment to expand industrialisation.
