Ahsanul Islam Titu, who has received the responsibility as state minister in the new cabinet, said that as his first step, the price of goods should be brought within the purchasing power.
He told this to journalists on his first day upon assuming office at the Secretariat on Sunday.
Among the several new faces that made it to the new cabinet, Ahsanul Islam Titu, who is relatively young among them, has received the responsibility of the Ministry of Commerce.
Ahsanul Islam Titu said: "The first program after taking charge will be to bring the price of goods within the affordability."
He said: "Government neither produces nor imports goods. The government will work towards making the journey from the producer's hand to the consumer's hand smoother."
Earlier, when the new state minister came to the office in the morning, he was welcomed by the officials and employees of the ministry. Tapan Kanti Ghosh, senior secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, was also present.
After exchanging views with the journalists, he had an introduction session with the officials of various departments under the ministry. Meanwhile, the new state minister is also taking care of the work.
Ahsanul Islam Titu, elected as a Member of Parliament from Tangail-6 Constituency in the 11th National Parliament Elections in 2018, has a background as the President of Dhaka Stock Exchange and the Managing Director of Thanthi Life Insurance.
Coming from a political family, he is the son of Haji Maqbul Hossain, who was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1996 from Dhaka-9 Constituency.
He was the founding convenor of Awami Swechasebak League.
