Jabian Business Network’s 4th anniversary observed

Since 2017, the Facebook-based platform has supported over 1,500 young entrepreneurs – half of whom are females

The founders and members of Jabian Business Network (JBN), a platform of entrepreneurs of Jahangirnagar University, celebrated its fourth founding anniversary on Tuesday.

They gathered at Noyabari 16/2, an exotic restaurant in the capital’s Mohammadpur area run by a former JU student, in the evening to celebrate the day.  

Key patrons of the platform include Murtaza Khan Lodi of JU 27th batch, who owns Noyabari 16/2 and Lodi Green offerings; Sagor Hasnath of 35th batch, who runs Ahlan, Baggaging, and Zosh Gear; and SM Belal Uddin of 39th batch, who is the executive member of the Cross Border Standing Committee at the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), and CEO and founder of Texort.

Since 2017, the Facebook-based platform has supported over 1,500 young entrepreneurs – more than half of whom are females, said a statement. It is the country's first business platform raised by university students.

Several well-known brands, e-commerce and f-commerce businesses of the country – selling anything and everything needed in a family as well as offering transport services and consultancy – grew bigger with the help of this platform, a market of 16,200 members and their families.

The top JU-based businesses include parmeeda.com, Leenas Achar, Supermart, Cake Domain, Badabon, Roots of Spice, Tangail Taat Palli, Al Khidmah, Jokhon Ja, Kasundi Kathan, Bhalo Phol and Aloka guaranteed shirts, Ambor, ShokherDibba and PoterBiBi.

The JBN mobilizes entrepreneurs to earn crores per year on average with a selling surge in seasonal and occasional businesses. In last summer, the countrywide sale of a single item “fresh mango” tallied around Tk30 lakh through this network. 

The platform also supports businesses beyond borders. Safe food and grocery items, authentic beauty products, homemade snacks, readymade garments, shopping bags, seasonal fruits, electronic goods, etc have been shipped to consumers in 25-30 countries using the wide schmoozing of this platform, read the statement.       

The group organizes seminars and workshops on branding, cross-border e-commerce, business carnival and get-togethers to discuss business problems, new opportunities, enhance modern skills, and increase mutual understanding between the business communities beyond JU.
