Haat to be built on Tripura border

Update : 07 Jun 2017, 10:11 PM
An Indo-Bangla joint team has selected a site to establish a Border Haat at Dhalai district in the Indian state of Tripura, following longstanding demands by traders of both sides. “We [both Indian and Bangladeshi representatives] have agreed to erect a Border Haat in the Kamalpur sub-division under the district after visiting the proposed site recently, following a meeting at Kamalpur Town Hall,” said Dhalai's Additional District Magistrate DK Chakma. “Other than selecting the location, a discussion on the items to be sold at the haat was held and other important issues related to the proposed establishment were also finalised during the meeting with Mehbubur Rahman, additional district magistrate of Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar,” he added. However, a canal will serve as a major barrier to the haat if it it advances along the zero line. “If so, there should be an alternative way to cover the canal. The Industries and Commerce Department will send an expert to find a solution to the problem,” said Chakma, who led the Indian delegation during the spot visit.
