Each scheme has a fund size of Tk1,000 crore.

Pubali Bank has signed separate Participation Agreements with Bangladesh Bank for the two schemes administered by the Sustainable Finance Department of Bangladesh Bank.

Also present were deputy managing director of Pubali Bank PLC Mohammad Esha and general manager & head of RMG Division Md Nazrul Islam Sarker, along with other senior officials of Bangladesh Bank and Pubali Bank.

To support the implementation of various long-term plans announced by the Government of Bangladesh—including the Perspective Plan of Bangladesh, National Sustainable Development Strategy, Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs), Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—and to make the country’s financial sector more environment-friendly, Bangladesh Bank has established the Tk1,000 crore ‘Refinance Scheme for Green Factory Building and Green Industry Sector’ to encourage financing for green factory buildings and green industries.

The scheme will expand financing opportunities for the establishment of green factory buildings, green industries and other environmentally responsible industrial initiatives.

It is expected to promote green investment while further accelerating the adoption of sustainable production practices and responsible industrialization.

Meanwhile, under the ‘Refinance Scheme for Development of the Information and Communication Technology Sector’, Bangladesh Bank has established a Tk1,000 crore fund.

The scheme aims to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the ICT sector through the adoption of modern and sustainable technologies, develop human resources, expand technology-driven enterprises, and support the development of new technologies and services aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The facility covers various technology-driven initiatives, including software development, artificial intelligence, cyber security, fintech, cloud computing, e-commerce, robotics and semiconductors.

Through participation in these two refinance schemes, Pubali Bank PLC. will further strengthen its role in expanding financing for environment-friendly industrial initiatives and the promising information and communication technology sector.

The initiatives are expected to widen access to financing for eligible entrepreneurs and institutions while contributing to sustainable industrialization, technological capacity building, innovation and employment generation in the country.
