More and more women bankers are securing top positions in the sector, said a Bangladesh Bank report.
Data by the central bank that was published on Monday, showed that the ratio of women in top positions at banks was 9.22% in July-December of 2022.
This ratio five years ago was 7.57%, according to the Gender Equality Report of Banks and Financial Institutions.
At the same time, the ratio of women bankers at the entry level and mid-level post increased but at a slower pace.
Similarly, the percentage of women as board members of banks rose to 14.22% in July-December of last year from 13.7% five years ago.
Similarly, the ratio of women bankers among all the employees in the banks also increased overtime.
For example, at the end of December 2018, women accounted for 15% of total bankers at 168,192.
Four years later, in July-December of 2022, women comprised 16.29% of total bankers at 196,102 in Bangladesh, according to the central bank report.
The Bangladesh Bank said the highest number of 131,264 bankers was employed in 43 private banks, of which 16.15% were women.
Private banks share in total jobs for women employees was 66% at the end of December 2022, up from 61% at the end of December 2018, according to the central bank report.
The Bangladesh Bank said the ratio of women employees in non-bank financial institutions, however, declined to 16% in July-December period of last year from 17% four years ago.
