The Bankers Selection Committee has cancelled the recruitment test of eight state-owned banks.
The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Fazle Kabir on Tuesday.
In a press briefing, Bangladesh Bank Assistant Spokesperson GM Abul Kalam Azad said: “The Bankers Selection Committee has decided to cancel the Friday’s recruitment test.
“An investigation committee has been formed regarding the matter and Bangladesh Bank’s chief Executive Director Ahmed Jamal will lead the probe body.”
He said the probe body has been given two weeks to submit the report.
“The people in charge of the Management Department exams have also been asked to explain themselves.” he added.
GM Abul Kalam Azad said: "After we receive the probe report and explanations, we will decide when and how we are going to conduct the exam."

On January 12, Hazrat Shah Ali Women College in Mirpur could not provide seats to hundreds of candidates among 5,600 who had applied for the bank recruitment test. Later, the candidates vandalized the doors and windows of the college.
Several allegations of mismanagement were made by applicants from various examination centres on Friday. Later, the candidates launched protests against the exam authorities and demanded the cancellation of the test.
On Monday afternoon, police detained two protesters. Subsequently, protesters placed nine-point demands before the authorities, including calls to cancel the test, and threatened stronger protests if their demands were not fulfilled.
The recruitment test had 61 designated exam centres in Dhaka, and was seeking candidates to fill 1,663 vacant posts in the eight state-owned banks.This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
