“We will start a survey on public awareness about the budget next year,” said Finance Minister AMA Muhith.
The Minster disclosed this while speaking at the launch of “Shishuder Budget Patth Shohaika (Child Friendly Version of the National Budget of Bangladesh)”, a joint publication prepared by the Finance Division and UNICEF Bangladesh, held at the CIRDAP auditorium in the city yesterday.
“In a democratic country, people are entailed to know what is happening in the budget section,” said Muhith.
He said people should learn about which sector is getting more attention and which sector is getting less attention in the budget.
The initiative will be helpful to bring transparency in the budget and for taking right decision on public investment, he added.
As part of presenting a transparent budget, the Minister said: “In 2009, the Awami League government decided to describe the budget in details, so the people could know how and where the public money is being used.”
“That’s why, the national budget with 100 pages is now elaborately described, but in 1981-1982, it was only 16 pages,” he added.
Additional Secretary Jalal Ahmed echoed the Minister and said the minister had already instructed them to initiate the survey.
