Muhith: I paid bribes twice in my life

Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said that he had to give bribe twice in his entire life. “I gave bribe twice in my life to connect and disconnect the gas line at my residences in Dhaka and Philippines,” the minister said while addressing the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) hotline, 106, inauguration in Dhaka Thursday. He also said: “Influential people in society indulge corruption to protect their own interest.” “Everyone in some way or the other is involved in the corruption process, but corruption would not take place if people did not participate in the process,” the minister added. With a view to intensifying the drive against corruption, ACC introduced the hotline, 106, to receive complaints directly from the people. The toll-free hotline will remain open for all from 9am to 5pm during work days.
