Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday said there will be no impact of the election on GDP growth, as the country’s economy is running well and there has been no change in the economic activities because of the upcoming national election.
“There will be a good growth in the current 2018-19fiscal year. The GDP growth will not be less than 7% in this year,” he told journalists after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), at the secretariat.
Responding to a question, Muhith said Bangladesh Bank (BB) is preparing to file a lawsuit against the Filipino Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) to recover the whole amount of money stolen from the central bank’s account with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, reports BSS.
Bangladesh will have to file case within January 15 and RCBC will be the main accused in the case, he added.
Hackers stole a total $101 million from Bangladesh’s account at the New York Fed in February, 2016.
Of the amount, $81 million was transferred to four accounts at RCBC in Manila and another $20 million to a bank in Sri Lanka.
But the transfer of $20 million to Sri Lanka had failed because of a spelling error by the hackers. Later, BB was able to retrieve about $15 million from Philippines.
