Transactions through the country's universal digital payment platform, "Bangla QR" code, have increased significantly.

In June last year, the daily transaction volume through this method was Tk40 crore, which has now surged by four times.

To make cashless transactions in the country more dynamic and popular, Bangladesh Bank has now taken the initiative to launch the Bangla QR service across retail networks nationwide.

On Wednesday (November 4), the Bangla QR service was officially launched at several retail networks in Dhaka's Banani and Gulshan areas.

Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Md Habibur Rahman inaugurated the service as chief guest.

Md Habibur Rahman stated that to enhance service quality, person-to-person (P2P) transaction facilities have been introduced starting November 1.

Additionally, special initiatives have been taken to introduce Bangla QR across various retail networks in the country to expand the scope of cashless transactions.

However, mentioning certain challenges in expanding the service to marginalized levels, he said: "There are some limitations regarding mobile and network facilities in marginalized regions. To overcome these barriers and increase financial inclusion, coordinated cooperation among banks, retail networks, and Mobile Financial Service (MFS) providers is essential."

According to relevant insiders, the main objective of this initiative is to reduce the use of cash in the market and bring digital transactions within the reach of ordinary people through the rapid expansion of the Bangla QR system.
