Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has reduced gold prices in the local market again.
Under the new rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been reduced by Tk2,683 per bhori (11.664 grams), bringing it down to Tk262,265.
Bajus announced the decision in a press release on Saturday morning, saying the revised prices took effect from 10am the same day.
According to the release, the prices of gold and silver jewellery were adjusted considering the overall market situation following a decline in the price of pure gold and silver in the local market.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of Bajus’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring held at 9:30am on Saturday.
Under the new price list, 22-carat hallmarked gold has been set at Tk22,485 per gram. The price of 21-carat gold is Tk21,465 per gram, while 18-carat gold has been set at Tk18,400 per gram. The price of traditional gold jewellery has been fixed at Tk14,985 per gram.
Silver prices have also been revised. The price of 22-carat silver has been set at Tk425 per gram, 21-carat silver at Tk320 per gram, and 18-carat silver at Tk495 per gram. Traditional silver jewellery will cost Tk520 per gram.
Bajus said the revised prices will remain effective at jewellery shops across the country until further notice. It also noted that buyers must pay 5% VAT, which will be deposited in the government treasury.
