Inflation in Bangladesh has stubbornly remained in the double digits, with figures from October showing that it is at 10.40%.
Food inflation rose to 12.66% in October, from 10.40% in September, according to data from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released on Thursday.
According to the latest BBS data, overall inflation rose to 10.87% in October from 9.92% in September.
October inflation was the highest in three months after overall consumer prices grew 9.92% in September and 10.49% in August this year.
However, non-food inflation eased slightly, declining to 9.34% from 9.50% in September.
Since March 2023, inflation has consistently exceeded 9%, impacting low-income and fixed-income individuals in the country.
Earlier, July saw the highest inflation in 13 years.
Inflation crossed double digits during the month of the students’ quota reform movement.
Overall inflation rose to 11.66% that month. General inflation was 9.72% last June.
Food inflation rose to 14% in July, which was the highest in 13 years.
Earlier, the last highest food price inflation was in April 2011 at 14.36%.
Since then, food inflation has never risen above 14%. Inflation has been gradually decreasing after July.
