The name Woking Street isn't just a catchy title; it carries a deeper meaning rooted in the Thai language. "Woking" mimics the sound of food sizzling in a hot wok, capturing the essence of Thai street food culture where the symphony of culinary creation fills the air.
This auditory cue promises an authentic experience where the food's preparation is as integral to the meal as the flavours themselves.
Food
Woking Street prides itself on delivering authentic Thai cuisine, with a menu that spans the diverse culinary landscape of Thailand. The dishes are prepared using traditional methods and fresh ingredients, ensuring an experience that's both genuine and delightful.

One of my favourite dishes at the restaurant was their Fried Fish, seasoned with turmeric and garlic. The combination of sweet, sour, and a bit of spice was delightful. The portion size was generous, easily enough for two or even three people, and it was priced at around Tk 1090.
Alongside this, I had the Chicken Drunken Noodles, perfect for those who enjoy Bangladeshi flavours in Thai cuisine. Priced at around Tk 450, it comes with options for beef and seafood as well. However, it's not recommended for those who prefer milder dishes.
I also tried the Spicy Thai Basil Beef, which is enough for two people. The beef is seasoned with black pepper and garlic, with a twist of traditional Thai sauce that makes it a favourite. The beef keema is unlike anything you’ll find at other restaurants in Dhaka right now.
A classic Thai soup, the Tom Yum Goong was a perfect balance of spicy, sour, and savoury. The broth, infused with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and galangal, is both invigorating and comforting.
Next on the menu was Pad Thai, a staple of Thai cuisine. Woking Street’s Pad Thai is a delightful mix of rice noodles, peanuts, bean sprouts, and your choice of protein, all tossed in a tangy and sweet tamarind-based sauce.

Another one on the menu was the rich and creamy Green Curry, which is a standout. The harmonious blend of green chillies, coconut milk, and Thai basil creates a depth of flavour that's both complex and satisfying.
And finally, for dessert, the Mango Sticky Rice is a must. The sweetness of ripe mango paired with the sticky rice and a drizzle of coconut milk makes for a perfect ending to the meal.
Ambience and service
Upon entering Woking Street, the first impression is one of understated elegance. The minimalist decor features clean lines, neutral tones, and subtle Thai-inspired accents. The use of natural light enhances the spacious feel of the dining area, while strategically placed greenery adds a touch of freshness.
The design philosophy here is clear: let the food be the star of the show.
Located on the 8th floor of a prominent building on Satmasjid Road, Woking Street offers diners a serene retreat from the bustling streets of Dhanmondi. The elevation provides a pleasant view, adding an extra layer of tranquillity to the dining experience.

The staff at Woking Street are well-versed in the menu and eager to guide diners through their culinary journey. Their attentive service and warm hospitality enhance the overall dining experience, making guests feel welcomed and valued. From helping with menu selections (which is ideal if you are not familiar with Thai cuisine) to ensuring prompt service, the team at Woking Street strives to make every visit memorable.
Verdict
Woking Street is more than just a restaurant; it's a destination for those seeking the authentic tastes of Thailand. Whether you're a Thai food aficionado or a curious first-timer, Woking Street offers a dining experience that is both memorable and satisfying.
The combination of flavorful dishes, minimalist decor, and attentive service makes it a standout spot in Dhanmondi and a perfect place to have a memorable meal with your family and friends.
