Siegwerk, one of the leading global providers of printing inks and coatings for packaging applications and labels, conducted a media and stakeholder roundtable on February 1, 2024, at a city hotel.
The roundtable aimed to address food safety issues in Bangladesh and raise awareness among media and other key stakeholders about safe food packaging in the context of Bangladesh’s recent introduction of stringent standards which prescribes guidelines for printing inks for use on food packaging.
Jatin Head- Brand Owner Collaboration, Indian Region, Siegwerk steered the session to raise awareness about the packaging supply chain, enhance the safety aspects of packaging materials, and safeguard consumers’ health. The session commenced, followed by an introduction to Siegwerk, with an emphasis on the importance of safe food packaging, and potential contamination risks in context to it. An engaging and interactive media Q&A session took place afterwards.
In his address at the technical roundtable session, Jatin Head- of Brand Owner Collaboration, Indian Region, Siegwerk said, “Bangladesh has already made a commendable progress in raising the food safety bar in recent times. So, to develop safe food packaging with appropriate and safe solvents, pigments, and other components, there is an urgent need to follow up and be aligned with Bangladesh’s latest standard on food packaging, from both regulatory and supply chain approach.”
On the same day later in the afternoon, a stakeholder roundtable also took place where local brand owners and converters shared their significant approach towards making food packaging safer. The impact of packaging inks on food safety, the harmful effects of Toluene, and Siegwerk’s pioneering role in driving awareness in this regard were also discussed.
