CG Runner, Genex Infrastructure collaborate for extensive EV charging network across the country

This aligns with Bangladesh government’s  commitment to integrating electric vehicles (EVs) in the market

Update : 21 Jan 2024, 07:18 PM

With the aim of advancing technology within the transportation industry in Bangladesh, CG Runner Bangladesh Limited and Genex Infrastructure Limited recently signed an agreement to establish a comprehensive charging network across the country.

Bangladesh has recently implemented progressive policies, such as the Charging Station Installation Policy, to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

This aligns with Bangladesh government’s  commitment to integrating electric vehicles (EVs) in the market, as the world is moving towards that direction at quite a speed. The Electric Motor Vehicle Registration and Operation Guideline 2023, targeting a 30% electric vehicle penetration by 2030, is a crucial step toward minimizing the carbon footprint, something we have seen take place in Europe and even in the US.

According to Genex Infrastructure Limited, it aims to establish ten charging stations in and around Dhaka city and along major national highways by March 2024.

The overarching goal is to develop a sustainable charging infrastructure nationwide, with plans for continuous expansion throughout the year.

Currently, Bangladesh has only four operational charging stations, the first of which was established in August last year.

Hafizur Rahman Khan, chairman of Runner Group, shared his perspective on the initiative to the media stating: "Our collective efforts are directed towards achieving a Smart Bangladesh vision. Recognizing the threat of climate change, we, at CG Runner Bangladesh Limited, acknowledge our responsibility to protect our planet. The transition to electric vehicles is a crucial step in reducing fuel consumption for the greater good of society. We are pleased to join forces with Genex Infrastructure Limited to establish charging stations nationwide. Our goal is to promote the growth of electric vehicles in Bangladesh, providing customers with uninterrupted and convenient access to charging stations."

As part of the collaboration, both companies have confirmed that customers of CG Runner BD Ltd will be given priority during the charging process, ensuring a smooth and convenient experience for their electric vehicles.

Managing Director of Genex Infrastructure Limited Mohammed Tanzidul Alam, on having a huge role to play in developing this stated: "We are excited to collaborate with CG Runner Bangladesh Limited on this extensive project to install charging stations across the country. As the shift to electric vehicles gains momentum, the demand for charging stations will inevitably rise. Our skilled and dedicated EPC team is eager to ensure the successful completion of this project."

As Bangladesh plans to import more EVs in the coming years, this collaboration signifies a crucial stride in Bangladesh's pursuit of moving towards benimal carbon footprint.
