He believes a recent court verdict has done more than just clear obstacles for his company; it has set the stage for a new, tech-driven era in the transport sector of Bangladesh.
The founder of Baagh Eco Motors Limited refers to this development as a gateway to modernization.
He explained that after sustaining substantial financial losses, this legal breakthrough opens up a major opportunity for national development. For him, the collective benefit to society far outweighs his personal losses.
Upon receiving the court's decision, Kazi Jasimul Islam recalled a classic movie line where a character, wrongfully imprisoned for a dozen years, demands to have his lost time returned.
Reflecting on his own reality, the entrepreneur remarked that while he cannot cry out like a fictional character, he cannot ignore the years of his life and the valuable time that have slipped away.
The journey began in 2018 with a vision to transform urban transport through eco-friendly technology.
However, the plan hit a wall due to registration and licensing hurdles.
Even though the company manufactured vehicles using modern components, it could not secure the required government approvals to operate them on public roads, halting progress for years.
While global transit networks are rapidly transitioning to electric vehicles, Kazi Jasimul Islam designed a plan to introduce eco-friendly technology to Bangladesh. His goal extended beyond launching a single vehicle model; he aimed to overhaul the entire urban transport infrastructure.
He observed that the two, three, and four-wheeled vehicles currently operating in local cities are badly in need of modernization.
Upgrading these platforms to eco-friendly systems could significantly improve public living standards.
His blueprint focused on setting up local EV manufacturing plants, utilizing solar power systems, introducing acid-free battery technologies, offering passenger Wi-Fi connectivity, implementing central GPS tracking for security, and building a tech-based transit network.
However, the rollout faced continuous delays.
The founder noted that public hesitation often accompanies new technology, which is why his team wanted to get a few vehicles onto the streets so commuters could experience the comfort firsthand. Administrative blocks made that impossible.
Environmental risks linked to unregulated acid batteries
A central point of concern raised by Kazi Jasimul Islam involves the environmental and public health hazards associated with conventional lead-acid batteries.
He pointed out that a massive number of unregulated battery-run three-wheelers across the country currently rely on these acid batteries, which pose severe risks to communities.
He cautioned that acid leaks into the soil and water supplies on a daily basis due to improper handling.
These toxic materials eventually enter the human food chain through crops and fish, damaging public health.
The transport landscape in Dhaka has changed dramatically over the past decade. Pedal-powered rickshaws, which used to be the primary mode of local transit, have largely been replaced by motorized, battery-operated alternatives.
However, Kazi Jasimul Islam pointed out that the majority of these modified vehicles operate without regulatory oversight or safety features.
While passengers and drivers find them convenient, their structural control and braking systems remain highly risky.
He believes that introducing modern, verified EVs under a standardized policy framework is the best way to bring safety to urban mass transit.
Although the full text of the court judgment has not yet been officially released, the entrepreneur stated that the ruling effectively breaks a long-standing regulatory deadlock.
Vehicles that could have played a vital role in public transit were barred from the streets simply because existing rules did not allow for their registration.
It took eight years of legal efforts to resolve why these modern vehicles were kept off the roads.

According to the founder, the vehicle underwent 42 months of technical and safety evaluations by engineering experts, including teams from Buet.
This process culminated in centralized registration approval from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in March 2022.
Despite this federal approval, the vehicles could not be deployed on public roads because they lacked local route permits from district-level Road Transport Committees (RTCs).
This long administrative gridlock stalled the project until the recent court verdict renewed hope for its rollout.
Technical specifications
The designers emphasize that the Baagh EV is built as an integrated technology platform rather than just a standard vehicle.
Each unit comes equipped with solar-assisted charging panels, swappable lithium-ion battery modules, integrated GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity, 360-degree security cameras, and a digital payment gateway for mobile fare collection.
Built on a high-grade steel chassis designed for safety and durability, the vehicle can carry up to seven passengers.
The company states that the vehicle operates at a low running cost of just 40 to 45 poisha per kilometer.
It delivers a driving range of nearly 120 kilometers on a single full charge from the grid, with its onboard solar panels providing an additional 25 to 30 kilometers of range.
Industrial estimates suggest that widespread deployment of Baagh EVs could lower national fossil fuel import costs and reduce pressure on the electrical grid through solar integration.
Furthermore, a regulated EV framework could generate substantial long-term revenue for the state, while opening doors for carbon credit trading and international climate fund allocations.
Environmental experts note that emissions from diesel engines and the spread of unverified, poorly built battery-run vehicles worsen air quality and health risks in major cities.
Introducing certified, road-legal EVs could significantly lower these pollution-related health risks, particularly for children.
