Eighteen officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) completed their training on five advanced technology courses which they participated in for the last six month.
At a certificate awarding ceremony held on December 12 at the NBR, AKM Badiul Alam, member for tax information management and services, awarded the certificates of achievement to 18 NBR officials.
These courses are part of an organization-wide drive towards technical self-sufficiency and to reduce NBR dependency on third party technology suppliers.
The courses included advanced Java programming, database-systems and network-administration, systems security and software quality assurance.
During the ceremony, Alam explained how the increasing complexity of new systems and the need for better integration between different data sources has made it essential for NBR to expand these in-house skills.
As taxes become more onerous and taxpayer systems automation is increasing all the time, it is essential that NBR remain abreast of the latest technology advances, he also said.
This ensures that NBR is able to ensure professional, reliable and robust systems and services to taxpayers, but at the same time to support tax compliance, making sure that each taxpayer pays their fair share of the national tax burden, Alam added.
This training initiative was funded by the European Union under the Technical Assistance to Support the Implementation of the PFM Reform Strategic Plan in Bangladesh and was organized and implemented by DT Global.
The training was presented by Mango Teleservices Limited from their Gulshan based IT training laboratory.
This collaborative effort between the NBR and the EU underscores a shared commitment to modernizing the revenue administration systems in Bangladesh and promoting autonomy in managing critical IT infrastructure on the road to a Digital Bangladesh.
