Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce AHM Shafiquzzaman on Tuesday said that the ministry is trying to work out a process to return the money stuck in escrow services.
The Digital Commerce Cell (DCC) is planning to propose issuing unique business identification numbers and introducing a central complaints management system alongside a central logistic tracking platform to streamline the e-commerce sector of the country.
Shafiquzzaman, who is also the convener of a high-level cabinet committee, made the remark to the reporters after a meeting at the parliament.
He also said: “Lots of money got stuck. Among which, Tk214 crore is in escrow services.”
The additional secretary further said that they have already sent letters to the Public Security Division and the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
“We asked for a legal opinion from the Legislative Division since a large portion of the money is stuck in lawsuits,” he added.
