On Thursday, January 19, a ceremony at the Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park marked the opening of the Fair Technology-Hyundai facility.
The facility was built by Fair Technology with assistance from Hyundai, and will produce the well-known SUV Creta.
In the beginning, the Fair Technology-Hyundai factory will be able to produce 3,000 Creta SUVs annually by working one shift each day, according to the company spokesperson.
10,000 units will be added gradually each year.
Each Creta will be produced using more than 1,000 imported parts and many coats of paint from its paint studio.
Engine and specifications of the car
The vehicle comes with a 1.5L petrol engine, but the insiders say that a hybrid model will eventually be manufactured at the plant.
Features include ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, window shades for the rear passengers and rear AC vents as well along with a small display to control the air purifier
Six airbags, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and disc brakes all around are included in the top-tier Creta model's safety features. Two airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, and disc brakes on only the front wheels are all included as standard safety features in the base and mid-level versions.
It is clear that Hyundai put a lot of effort into the new Creta's comfort. The Creta is now larger in size and provides more space in the back because it was built on a new basis. Additionally, the headrests are cozy, and the chairs provide excellent support. There is adequate headroom as well, though the panoramic sunroof can take up part of that capacity. The ergonomics are also outstanding up front.
There are three drive modes available for the 2020 Creta: Eco, Comfort, and Sport and they perform as promised.
It is advised to leave the 'Sport' for the highway, where the gearbox holds onto the gears longer and makes overtaking simple, and switching between Eco and Comfort when driving in the city. The SUV also has three different traction settings: snow, sand, and mud.
However, it doesn't come in an AWD/4WD version.
According to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority's (BRTA) data on vehicle registration, sales of sport utility vehicles (SUV) and their associated crossovers increased by one-fourth in a year.
SUVs and crossovers now account for roughly four out of every ten vehicles sold, compared to only one ten years ago.
Currently, crossovers which have SUV bodies on sedan chassis, make up two out of every ten vehicles on the road. in 2022, surpassing 10,000 units for the first time.
The amount that Fair Technology invested in the manufacturing plant has not been made public.
More than 300 jobs are anticipated to be created by the factory, most of which will go to Hyundai-trained plant technicians and diploma engineers.
The third-largest auto supplier in the world's presence in Bangladesh, Hyundai Motors, will have a variety of positive knock-on impacts on many enterprises and industries.
Currently, the emphasis is on bringing in Completely Knocked Down (CKD) components and putting them together in the cutting-edge facility.
CKD refers to the transportation of automobile components for certain vehicles from the factory to facilities where they are built in various countries.
The Fair Technology plant's paint factory will receive the chassis and body components and paint them.
The Hyundai Creta will be the only locally produced model at first, but by the end of the year, another model will be added.
Fair Technology hopes that local manufacturing will gradually lead to higher sales.
It has already created numerous Sales, Service, and Spare Parts (3S) Centers in Dhaka and Chittagong and has expanded the 3S facilities to other significant cities, such as Sylhet, Bogura, etc, to ensure customer advantage.
