Update : 13 Jul 2022, 08:24 PM

The Bangladeshi Taka continued to depreciate against the US dollar on Wednesday, with the interbank exchange rate standing at Tk93.95 per dollar.

This is up from Tk93.45 on the previous day. It marks the 19th depreciation of Taka against the dollar in 2022.

So far this year, the depreciation of the Taka against the greenback totalled 9.24%.

Bangladesh Bank executive director Md Serajul Islam confirmed the issue.

The central bank had previously allowed free floating of the dollar, but it intervened in the forex market by setting the interbank exchange rate.

The Bangladesh Bank is selling the USD every day to banks in order to cool down the forex market.

On Wednesday, the central bank sold $97 million to banks at the rate of Tk93.95 per dollar, at the official interbank exchange rate.
