Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) on Thursday gave a pre-qualification license to private-run Purbagaon Economic Zone (EZ) located at Kayet Para Union under Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj district.

BEZA issued the pre-qualification license to establish the Purbagaon EZ at a function at BEZA headquarters in the city, said a press release.

City Group, a leading business house in the country, is developing the Purbagaon EZ.

BEZA Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun presided over the function while City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman was the special guest.

The zone is being established on 94 acres of land on the bank of river Shitalakshya and adjacent to the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. There is a plan to expand the EZ to 150 acres in future.

This EZ is very convenient in terms of communication. It is 25 kilometer away from the capital Dhaka and 180 kilometer distant from Chittagong sea port by road. Tk10 thousand crore will be invested initially.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaikh Yusuf Harun said investors from home and abroad are giving significant responses to developing economic zones in the country.

He expressed his hope that the EZ will become an effective one to encourage rapid economic development through the increase and diversification of industry, employment, production and export.
