Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled has resigned as chairman of International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL).
He told Dhaka Tribune that he sent his letter of resignation to the board of directors of the NBFI, Bangladesh Bank and the High Court on Sunday.
He said he found it difficult to rejuvenate the company since most of the loans were being approved by violating rules and regulations and such loans were unlikely to be repaid.
“Besides, my physical condition is not well,” he said.
Earlier on January 22 this year, the High Court removed MA Hashem from the chairmanship of the company and replaced him with Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled, former central bank deputy governor, in an effort to revive the ailing non-banking financial institution.
The court had also imposed a ban on shareholder-directors and top executives, including PK Halder of the NBFI from leaving the country, and ordered a freeze on their bank accounts.
Talking to Dhaka Tribune, Bangladesh Bank executive director and spokesperson Md Serajul Islam said: “I cannot make any comment of the matter because now the matter is sub judice at the High Court.”
