Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Elius Hossain yesterday urged the onion traders in Chittagong to refrain from making unjust profit.
He made the urge while addressing a view exchange meeting with the onion traders.
In the wake of the recent price hike of onions, Chittagong district administration organized the meeting at the conference hall of DC office.
Representatives from different law enforcing agencies, Consumers’ Association of Bangladesh, Khatunganj Trade and Industries Association, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chaktai-Khatunganj Wholesalers and General Merchants Association participated in the meeting.
The DC also announced to continue the ongoing market monitoring drives to contain the runaway prices of onion.
Issuing a set of directives during the meeting to keep the prices of onion under control, Elius Hossain asked the onion wholesalers and retailers to display price charts at their respective business outlets.
“The wholesalers at Khatunganj commodity hub should keep all documents of onion purchases. The police should ensure uninterrupted movement of trucks loaded with onions. The customs authorities should ensure faster offloading of onion consignments,” the DC said.
