State Minister for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has urged National Board of Revenue (NBR) to withdraw 7.5%  Value Added Tax (VAT) from e-commerce businesses.

The junior minister came up the call, while talking to journalist after a program in Dhaka yesterday.

In the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2019-20, the government has imposed a 7.5% VAT on virtual business.

“Since the e-commerce is a growing industry, I have written a letter to the NBR requesting the national exchequer to withdraw the proposed 7.5% VAT from e-commerce industry,” said Zunaid Ahmed Palak.

As a growing industry, the e-commerce sector did not reach a level from which VAT would be earned, he said.
