Locally made plastic products at the Dhaka International Trade Fair 2019 have been gaining huge traction among visitors, leading to traders selling items worth Tk10,000 to Tk13,000 every day.
Furthermore, most of the local plastic manufacturers are offering 10-30% discounts and buy-one-get-one-free offers to woo customers.
With new designs and variants of their products, local brand RFL is selling miscellaneous items, including tooth-brush holders, bowls, buckets, tables, bottles, jars, clothes pegs, etc.
Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Operations Officer of RFL Plastics Mahfuzur Rahman said: “On average, we are selling between Tk12,000 to Tk13,000 worth of products each day. But the amount goes up to as high as Tk20,000 on weekends.”
He added that the company is offering free home delivery in Dhaka on purchase of plastic furniture worth Tk500 and above from RFL Best Buy's pavilion.
Another local brand, Tanin Bestware, is selling plastic furniture for office, home, hospital and school. They are giving one 100% cash-back offer daily, and 20% discount on payments made via bKash. Credit card holders can also avail EMI (equated monthly installment) benefits at their pavilion.
Tanin is also selling plastic mugs for only Tk9 at the fair.
Afreen Jahan, a customer at Tanin's outlet, said she was looking to buy a plastic rack and a table from the fair.
Mostafa Kamal, in-charge of Tanin Bestware pavilion, said their main aim at the fair is to exhibit their products so that customers will visit their regular showrooms, if they like the samples.
ACI Premio Plastic is selling chairs, tables, wardrobes, jewellery boxes, closets and bins. A sales representative at the ACI pavilion said they are selling mugs, bowls and glasses starting from Tk19 at the fair. Their most expensive product, a dinner table set, is priced at Tk7,990.
Bengal Plastics is selling trays, bowls, storage containers, jugs, laundry baskets, racks, chairs, lunch boxes, flasks, kitchenware, water pots and toys.
Rafikul Islam, a visitor, said: “Plastics products are both useful and cheap. I have already bought 10 plastic items from the fair."
Apart from the plastic industry leaders, various local stalls are also selling plastic toys like fans, cars, flutes, motorcycles, etc, at the fair, with prices ranging from Tk50 to Tk500.
