The International Trade Fair will remain closed on Friday as the countdown to the 100th birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman begins on the day.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the organising body of the fair, yesterday announced it.

Avijit Chowdhury, director general of EPB, said a notice to this effect was dispatched to all the organizations participating in the fair.

“The fair will open as usual on Saturday, January 11,” he said.

Earlier, during a meeting of the Security Sub-committee held on the inaugural day of the DITF in the conference hall of the home ministry, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal requested the organizing body of the fair to keep the fair closed on January 10.

The home minister said at the meeting that according to the preliminary decision, the countdown clock would be placed on 83 points in the country including 28 different points of the 12 city corporations, 53 districts and two upazilas, and the University of Dhaka.

“These places would be under strict security surveillance with CCTV camera,” he added.

The inauguration ceremony of the countdown will be held on the Parade ground on January 10. Around 2,000 guests, along with 10,000 spectators will attend the ceremony.
