Thirty one businesses have been awarded the 18th ICAB National Award for best annual reports in 2017.
The award was broken up into 10 categories.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) announced the names of the winners in a ceremony at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka on Monday. Chief guest and Finance Minister AMA Muhith handed out the awards to the winners, which included banks, non-government organizations (NGOs), and manufacturing entities.
ICAB has been organizing the National Award since 2001. ICAB President Dewan Nurul Islam delivered the welcome speech at this year’s event.
The three best annual reports in each category will be nominated by ICAB to compete in the SAFA forum next year, in recognition of their excellence in financial disclosure, organizers said.
In the Banking Sector (Private) category, Bank Asia Limited secured first prize, Brac Bank Limited placed second, and Dutch Bangla Bank Limited finished in third.
In the Financial Services category, IDLC Finance Limited bagged the first prize, Lanka Bangla Finance Ltd came in second, and IPDC Finance Limited secured the third prize.
In the Manufacturing category, British American Tobacco Bangladesh won the first prize, GSK Bangladesh won second prize, and Premier cement and ORION Pharma were jointly awarded the third prize.
In the Insurance Sector category, Green Delta Insurance Company Limited won first prize, Prime Insurance Ltd finished second, and Reliance Insurance Ltd received the third prize.
In the NGO category, Brac won first prize, Sajida Foundation and Uddipan jointly secured second, and Buro Bangladesh won third prize.
Grameenphone Limited received the first prize in the Information and Communication Technology category.
In the Public Sector entities category, the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh won first prize, while Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) bagged the second and third prize, respectively.
Golden Harvest Agro Industries Limited won the first prize in the category of Agriculture.
In the category of Corporate Governance disclosures, IDLC won the first prize, Lanka Bangla Finance Ltd bagged second prize and British American Tobacco Bangladesh, Bank Asia Ltd & Green Delta Insurance company Ltd jointly got the third prize.
In the category of Integrated Reporting, IDLC Finance Limited received first prize, BRAC second and Bank Asia Ltd & Islami Bank Ltd jointly got the third prize.
Besides, Mutual Trust Bank Ltd, Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd, Prime Bank Ltd, RAK, BSRMS Steels Ltd, Marico Bangladesh Ltd, Union Capital, Prime Bank Ltd., Mercantile Bank Ltd and Prime Bank Ltd got Certificates of Merit in different categories.
Chairman of Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Chairman CQK Mustaq Ahmed, Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Abdur Rouf Talukder, Finance Division Secretary, Md. Ashadul Islam Secretary, Financial Institutions Division and Md. Mofizul Islam, Secretary of Ministry of Commerce were present at the event.
A 9-member Jury Board chaired by Md. Matiul Islam, country’s first finance secretary reviewed the recommended list of award winners as well as merit certificate winners. Other eight members of the Jury Board are former Advisors to a Caretaker government Wahiduddin Mahmud, Rokia Afzal Rahman, Rasheda K Chowdhury, former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman, former comptroller of auditor general of Bangladesh Ahmed Ataul Hakeem , Acting Editor of the Financial Express Shahiduzzaman Khan , former BSEC Chairman Faruq Ahmad Siddiqi and Distinguished Fellow of Center for Policy Dialogue(CPD) Prof. Mustafizur Rahman.
