The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment is all set to award 35 non-resident Bangladeshis with CIP (Commercially Important Person) status for their outstanding contribution to the country’s economy by remitting foreign currencies.
The ministry has recently issued a circular publishing the name of 35 individuals, recognizing their contributions to the economy in 2015.
Among them, 29 will be awarded for remitting the highest amount of foreign currencies and another six for importing products from Bangladesh.
Thirteen of the CIPs, Mossammet Jasmin Akter, Mohammed Mahtabur Rahman , Mohammed Islamil, Mohammed Jashim Uddin, Mohammed Hashim, Nurul Alam, A H M Tajul Islam, Rakhal Kumar Gope, Abul Kalam, Abdul Gani Chowdhury, Mohammed Ali, Morshedul Islam, and Mohd Farid Ahmed are from United Arab Emirates.
Six of them, Mohd Mosaddek Chowdhury, Mohammed Ashrafur Rahman, Mohammed Shamsul Azim, Mohammed Yaseen Chowdhury, Hafez Mohammed Idris, and Abdul Jalil are from Oman.
Mohammed Abdul Rohim, Mohammed Adnan Imam, and Mohammad Mohsin Alam are from the United Kingdom, while Md. Sajjad Hossain is from Singapore; Ahmmad Al Zaman, Abdul Aziz Khan, and Mohd Abu Taleb are from Qatar; Shahid Hossain Jahangir is from Australia, Md Mahmudur Rahman Khan from Hong Kong, and Kazi Sharwar Habib is from Japan.
Mohammed Selim and Nurul Alam from the United Arab Emirates, A H Badar Uddin Chowdhury from Oman, Khan Md Firoz Ul Alam from Russia, Abul Kashem from Kuwait, and Mohd abu Taleb from Qatar, were selected as CIP for importing Bangladeshi products.
They will be handed CIP cards and a crest at a function to be organized soon, the ministry officials said.
According to the policy, non-resident Bangladeshis are selected for CIP status under the remittance sender category if they send at least $200,000 in a fiscal year.
The CIP (NRB) cardholders will enjoy a number of facilities for the next one year from the day of issuance of the gazette that includes a card to be used for entering the secretariat and they will get reserved seats on government air, rail, road and waterways for business-related visits.
The CIPs, their spouses, and children will get priority in getting cabin facilities at government hospitals for medical treatment. The CIP cardholders will be allowed to use the VIP lounge and receive special luggage handling facilities at the airport.
They will also get special treatment in meeting high officials at home and abroad.
