Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning are likely to occur across the country over the next five days, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in its 120-hour forecast on Tuesday morning.
According to the regular bulletin issued by the weather office, the trough of low pressure lies over Gangetic West Bengal and the Northwest Bay. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over the North Bay.
For the first 24 hours starting from 9am Tuesday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places over the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chittagong divisions and at a few places over the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy falls may also occur at isolated places over the country.
During this period, both day and night temperatures may drop slightly across the country. In the capital, the wind was blowing from the south/southeast direction at a speed of 8–12km/h on Tuesday morning, with relative humidity recorded at 89%.
On the second day (Wednesday), rain or thundershowers are likely at many places over the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over the Dhaka, Khulna, and Barisal divisions, with day and night temperatures remaining nearly unchanged.
The bulletin further noted that while day and night temperatures may rise slightly on Thursday, the overall rainy trend is expected to persist across all divisions through Friday and Saturday.
In its extended outlook for the subsequent five days, the meteorological department predicted that the trend of rainfall activity is likely to increase further.
Meanwhile, Bogra recorded the highest rainfall of 68 mm in the country during the 24 hours ending at 6am Tuesday, while the highest temperature on Monday was recorded at 36 degrees Celsius in Sylhet.
