Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman has expressed optimism that a path towards resolving the Rohingya crisis will emerge in the coming days.
He made the remarks at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday on the prime minister's recent visits to Malaysia and China.
Speaking at the briefing, Dr Khalilur Rahman said China had assured Bangladesh that it would assist both Bangladesh and Myanmar in expediting efforts to resolve the crisis.
Referring to the Rohingya issue, the foreign minister said there are four stakeholders involved: Myanmar, the Arakan Army, which currently controls the relevant area, Bangladesh, and the Rohingya people who have taken shelter in Bangladesh.
"When the prime minister appointed me as foreign minister, I received congratulatory messages from both Myanmar's foreign minister and the chief of the Arakan Army. I cannot disclose much more than that. So, we do have communication," he said.
The foreign minister said the current government came to power with a level of public support and strength that gives him confidence that a solution to the crisis could be found in the coming days.
"You should remember that the BNP government resolved the Rohingya crisis twice in the past; everyone knows that. Likewise, everyone knows that we will also resolve it," he added.
