Three Rohingyas sustained injuries after members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) opened fire at the Palongkhali Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar early on Sunday, which later led to the lynching of one of the attackers by residents of the camp.
The injured are Ramida Khatun, 55, wife of Hossain Ahmed, and their two sons, Mohammad Rafiq, 25, and Zubayer, 18, all residents of block G1 of the camp.
Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali said around 20 to 25 armed Arsa members began firing in the camp in the morning.
Residents of the camp then started shouting for help, prompting others from nearby blocks to chase the attackers. During this time, three Rohingyas were injured in the firing, added the OC.
The refugees of the camp managed to capture one of the attackers and beat him to death, the police officer said, adding that the identity of the deceased could not be immediately ascertained.
Later, the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and Ukhiya police arrived at the scene and took the injured to a local hospital for treatment.
The deceased Arsa member's body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, the OC added.
