Bangladesh now hosts over 1.2 million Rohingyas

Update : 11 Jun 2019, 12:54 PM

The government will brief diplomats stationed in Dhaka, on Wednesday, about current issues –especially focusing on the Rohingya situation.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, among others, will be at the diplomatic briefing, an official said on Tuesday, reports UNB.

Bangladesh now hosts over 1.2 million Rohingyas; according to UNHCR, more than 723,000 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh to escape the violence that broke out in Myanmar’s Rakhine state on August 25, 2017.

The majority of them are women and children, with more than 40% under the age of 12.

Earlier, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called upon the ad-hoc ministerial committee—led by Gambia—to take immediate measures to launch a case on Myanmar's human rights violations against Rohingyas at the International Court of Justice, on behalf of the OIC.

The OIC affirmed its support for the ad-hoc ministerial committee on human rights violations against the Rohingyas in Myanmar and for using all international legal instruments to hold the perpetrators of crimes against the Rohingya accountable.
