Five vessels carrying 1.69 lakh tons of diesel and octane have berthed at Chittagong port in a move aimed at keeping fuel supply normal in the country.
Of the vessels, unloading is currently underway from two ships, while three others have arrived at the outer anchorage, officials said.
Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Assistant Manager for Public Relations Farzin Hasan Moumita confirmed the information on Monday.
She said diesel was being unloaded from two vessels at Dolphin Jetty of Chittagong port. One of them, MT Oaktree, is carrying about 35,000 metric tons of diesel, while MT Cape Bonny is carrying about 33,000 metric tons of diesel.
Port sources said unloading from the two vessels is being carried out to meet fuel demand.
Meanwhile, three more fuel vessels have already entered the outer anchorage. MT Lian Song Hu is carrying about 41,000 metric tons of diesel, MT Pacific Indigo is carrying about 33,000 metric tons of diesel, and MT Nave Cielo is carrying about 27,000 metric tons of octane.
BPC officials said fuel supply conditions in the country are expected to become more stable once unloading from these vessels is completed, easing existing pressure in the market.
